Taxonomy

Originally our interest in taxonomy was sparked by our work in site search. We quickly discovered something you probably already know if you’re reading this: taxonomies are a huge headache.  Why?
  • First, you have to have a taxonomy that actually captures what your content is about. Getting that right involves taking a deep look at your content, and that's incredibly labor intensive.
  • Next, you have to evaluate ALL your content against the taxonomy and apply the taxonomic category labels to that content.
  • Finally, you have to maintain those labels. You thought it was tough getting budget for the initial project. Try getting funding for the maintenance of something that no one but experts really understands. Expect executive eye rolling.
